Nowadays, Artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Meta, etc., are becoming a daily part of our lives. These AI agents rely on large language models, which can be used to generate text-based answers. Now, with the technological advancements, these tools can also be used to generate images based on the user's inputs. These tools have affected not only professionals but also school students.
It can be roughly said that one agent like ChatGPT can work as much as 600 people in a day. The students are becoming increasingly dependent on these tools. The AI can help students to learn new facts, test their knowledge and generate & shape new ideas by assisting them. So, the AI can be used as a smart and powerful assistant at their service.
However, the use of these smart assistants is not being done smartly by the students. The students are currently using them to get their homework done without brainstorming. For example, students look for ready-made articles to read aloud in assembly, make charts/ projects/ models using these agents. The basic nature of humans to get work done easily becomes an obstacle to use these agents smartly.
A new dangerous trend is seen in school students. The students (most of them are gullible at this stage of life) treat these tools as their friend, as these tools never answer with a strict “NO” to any of their queries and point out the student's choice as “always right.” Recent reports of few students committing suicide after consulting AI agents have also surfaced and are disturbing to parents and educators a lot. The students use these tools to ask personal questions without realising that these tools collect all the information and can use this information against them. It also shows the lack of time given by parents to their wards, resulting in a disconnect and gap between them, which is being filled by AI.
In the end, we suggest that a judicious use of these tools should be encouraged. It is the duty of the parents and educators to make aware of the consequences of sharing personal data and befriending these agents. Parents should take their wards in confidence and spend more time with them.
